Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday slammed Congress leader Rahul
Gandhi in Puducherry, in response to the latter’s recent comment about the lack
of a dedicated Fisheries Ministry in New Delhi
. Gandhi, in one of his recent
rallies in Puducherry, had earlier said that in case of his party coming into
power, a separate ministry for fisheries would be established.

Shah, in return, asked attendants of his campaign rally in Karaikal, Puducherry
on Sunday whether they would like to have a leader like Gandhi, who does not
know of the fisheries department’s existence, as per various media reports.

“Some days ago, Rahul Gandhi had asked why there is no fisheries
department. I want to know from people whether they want a leader who doesn’t
know that Department of Fisheries has been in existence for 2 years (since
2019),” Shah said, as per news agency ANI.

The Union Minister further claimed that Gandhi was in ‘vacation’ when
the department was set up in 2019.

Gandhi had earlier asked the crowd in Puducherry as to why the
fishermen do not have their separate ministry in the capital.

At a later public meeting, several BJP leaders, including Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, had expressed shock over Gandhi’s statement.

“Dear PM, Fisherfolk need an independent and dedicated ministry of
fisheries, not just a department within a ministry. PS- “Hum do Humare do”
obviously hurt bad”, Gandhi had tweeted out in response on Thursday.
