Activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan said on Monday that the arrests of Disha Ravi and Nodeep Kaur reminds him of Sophie Scholl who was beheaded by guillotine in Nazi Germany for resisting the Nazis.

In a tweet, Bhushan said, “When one sees how young, selfless public spirited activists like #DishaRavi & #NodeepKaur are being arrested in India Today, I am reminded of the story of Sophie Scholl who was beheaded by guillotine in Nazi Germany for resisting the Nazis. Read her inspiring story.”

Along with his tweet, Bhushan shared a screenshot of the story Scholl from a Wikipedia page. According to the screenshot, Scholl was executed by guillotine for distributing ant-war leaflets at the University of Munich. It also says that she is extensively commemorated since the 1970s for her anti-Nazi resistance work.

23-year-old Dalit labourer and trade union activist, Kaur was arrested on January 12 after she had joined a protest by labourers in Haryana’s Kundli.

On the other hand, 21-year-old climate activist Ravi  was arrested from Bengaluru on Saturday and sent to five days’ police remand by a Delhi court on Sunday after being charged with editing the ‘toolkit’ on farmers’ protest.

Both the arrests have been widely criticised with Opposition leaders, activists and even international influencers slamming the action taken by the Centre.
