Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has quarantined himself after his wife Sunita Kejriwal tested positive for COVID19 on Tuesday. Delhi is reeling under the impact of the second wave of COVID-19, logging record number of more than 25,000 infections in the past one day.

According to news agency ANI, Sunita Kejriwal is in home isolation. Earlier in 2020, Kejriwal had isolated himself after showing flu-like symptoms. The subsequent test came out negative for coronavirus.

On Monday, Kejriwal announced a 6-day lockdown in the national capitaland warned that the city’s healthcare system was tottering. he said the lockdown would give the government time to shore up resources. “Delhi’s health system is at a tipping point. The COVID-19 situation is pretty critical… If we don’t impose a lockdown now, we will be looking at a bigger disaster,” he said.

Meanwhile, an expert has warned that the second wave of coronavirus in Delhi is likely to peak within a week after possibly hitting a positivity rate of 50%. Dr Jugal Kishore, the head of community medicine at Safdarjung Hospital, said, “The virus spreads from person to person in close proximity. Over the last few months, people have been meeting each other at a greater pace without following COVID-appropriate behaviour. The results are before us,” reports PTI.
