Cyclone Tauktae is about 160 km south-southwest of Mumbai and is likely to hit Gujarat tonight. On Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department had announced that the cyclone had intensified into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm”.

The IMD said, %u201CThe very severe cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ over the east-central Arabian Sea moved north-north-westwards with a speed of about 20 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm%u201D.

In accordance with the IMD%u2019s warning, an orange alert has been issued for Mumbai. Due to the acceleration of the cyclone, Chattrapati Shivaji Airport and the Bandra-Worli sea link have been shut off.
