Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday visit poll-bound Goa ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections 2022. The senior BJP leader will address three public meetings and also launch an umbrella campaign.

According to the schedule shared by the BJP on their official Twitter handle, the Home Minister will begin his visit with puja and darshan at the Shri Sai Baba Temple in Borim at around 2:45 pm.

“Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit South Goa today…after a public meeting at Sun Grace Garden, Ponda and Sharda Mandir Multipurpose Hall, Sanvordem, which will be broadcasted digitally, we’ll launch an Umbrella campaign in Vasco,” shared Goa BJP chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade.

Shah will address the first public meeting in Ponda at 4.30 pm, followed by another such event in Sanvordem at 6.30 pm. He will hold his last public meeting of the day at Vasco at 8 pm.

With the Election Commission recently extending its ban on physical rallies and roadshows in the five poll-bound states till January 31, political parties have resorted to virtual streaming of events or public events with limited attendance.

Earlier, the Election Commission had allowed public meetings with a maximum of 500 people in the constituencies where elections will be held in the first phase. Political parties can also hold indoor meetings with a maximum of 300 people or at 50% capacity.

This is the first public meeting in the state to be addressed by any star campaigner of the BJP since the EC announced the poll schedule earlier this month. The BJP has fielded candidates from all 40 Assembly constituencies.

Elections for the 40 seat Goa assembly are slated to be held in a little more than two weeks (February 14) with votes being counted on March 10.
