Anderson
, the legendry England pace bowler, has become only the second
cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, to play most Test matches when he stepped
onto the field for the fourth Ashes Test against Australia at the Sydney
Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday. Anderson surpassed former Australia skippers, Ricky
Ponting and Steve Waugh during the Sydney Test.

Anderson,
who had 168 Test caps under his belt, now stands second in the list. India’s
Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 200 Tests. Before heading into the fourth
Test, Anderson had 639 wickets to his name which is the most by any fast bowler
in the history of Test cricket. On Day 1 of the match, Anderson took the wicket
of Marcus Harris to take his Test tally to 640. Anderson’s teammate Stuart
Broad has now 151 Test caps and claimed 527 Test wickets for England so far.

Veteran
England pacer Anderson missed the first Test in Brisbane but was recalled into
the side in the Adelaide Test. He also played the Melbourne Test but could not
make any impact. England lost all three matches and eventually lost the Ashes Test series.

The
visitors lost the first match by nine wickets in Brisbane followed by a 275-run
defeat at the Adelaide Oval. They were humiliated in the third Test match
played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground by an innings and 14 runs as they lost
the three 3-0 with two Tests still to go at that time.

In the
Sydney Test, on a rain-curtailed day 1, Australia scored 126 for 3. England
managed to dismiss dangerous David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Marcus
Harris. Mark Wood, Anderson and Broad took the wickets.

Steve Smith
(6 not out) and Usman Khwaja (4 not out) will resume Australian innings on day
2.
