A minor gaffe by Indian wicketkeeper-batsman
Rishabh Pant on Friday led to banter in the Indian side and even a smirk from Tim
Paine, the batsman on crease.
With the right-hander attempting to
drive the ball from T Natarajan off the cover but missing, a supposed nick off
the bat prompted Pant to appeal for a caught behind, without support from three of
his adjacent slip fielders.
As a hearty laugh emerged from the
commentators’ box, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, Pant’s team India mates, also
seemed to have a bit of banter with the wicketkeeper, who kept on appealing to
Rahane for some time, supposedly for a referral.
The situation was greeted with a
smirk from Tim Paine, too.
The International Cricket Council
(ICC) and cricket.com.au did not let the quick laugh go off their hands in the first
day of the Test series, as both responded to the incident on their respective
Twitter handles.

“Rishabh Pant was heaps keen on this
one but he was getting donuts from the cordon! Face with tears of joy #AUSvIND”,
cricket.com.au wrote, posting an emoji alongside the tweet.
“No one’s convinced, Rishabh Pant! #AUSvIND”,
ICC jokingly wrote on their Twitter handle.
On the match front, riding on Marnus Labuschagne’s fifth Test century, Australia scored 274 runs for the loss of five wickets on the opening day of the fourth and final Test against India in Brisbane on Friday.
