Baraut assembly constituency has Krishnapal Singh Malik of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Jaiveer Singh Tomar of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Ankit Sharma of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Rahul Kashyap of Congress this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. 

Krishnapal Singh Malik had won the Baraut seat in 2017 when the BJP swept Uttar Pradesh winning 312 of UP’s 403 assembly seats. Malik had beaten his closest rival Sahab Singh of RLD by a margin of 26,486 votes.

In 2012, the seat was won by Lokesh Dixit of the BSP. Also, in 2012, the Samajwadi Party had won the elections with 224 seats, the BSP was second, winning 80 seats, the BJP had won 47 and the Congress 28.

Baraut falls under Baghpat district and the Baghpat Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats – three of these are in Baghpat district and two in other districts.

Baraut saw the Samajwadi Party remain in power from 1993 to 2007 when the seat was won by the BJP. 

The Baraut assembly constituency will vote in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on February 10, 2022, along with 57 other constituencies in 11 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 3.

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
