The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to question veteran Indian cricketer Wriddhiman Saha about recent comments he made about BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma, and team head coach Rahul Dravid regarding selection matters, which resulted in a breach of central contract.

“Player shall not make any comments about the game, officials, incidents that happened in the game, use of technology, selection matters, or any other matter related to the game which, in the opinion of the BCCI, is adverse to and/or not in the interest of the game, team, or BCCI in any media,” states clause 6.3 of the BCCI central contract for players.

After being dropped from the Test squad for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman spoke to the media about his conversation with Ganguly after the New Zealand knock, Dravid’s “retirement” suggestion, and the conversation he had with Chetan before the squad announcement.

“Yes, as a centrally contracted player, the BCCI might question Wriddhiman about how he commented about selection considerations. In terms of the presidency, he had attempted to encourage him. The board could be interested in learning what prompted him to go public with his dressing room chats with coach Dravid,” Arun Dhumal, BCCI treasurer, said PTI on Thursday.

Dhumal, however, stated that the BCCI will make a decision in a “few days.”

Wriddhiman previously said that Ganguly “guaranteed him a place in the Test squad as long as he remained BCCI head,” but team management warned him that he “would not be considered henceforth.”

Last November, he played for India in a Test series against New Zealand at home, when he overcame neck problems to score a courageous 61. While on tour in South Africa, Rishabh Pant was the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper. And KS Bharat was chosen as his substitute in the Sri Lanka series by the selectors.
