Left Democratic Front (LDF) chief and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hailed on Wednesday his party’s performance in local body polls. “LDF got a comprehensive victory in local body polls. This is the victory of the people of the state,” the LDF chief said.

“This election results are befitting reply to those who are trying to destroy Kerala,” the CM said.

Out of the 941 Gram Panchayat seats, his party is leading in 514. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in 376 and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in 23.

The LDF is leading in 108 of the 154 Block Panchayat seats, in 10 of the 14 District Panchayat seats. 

Out of the 86 Municipality seats, UDF is leading in 45 and LDF in 35. In the six Corporations up for polls, both LDF and UDF are leading in three, each. 

“Efforts of those who tried to destabilise govt using central agencies have been defeated,” Vijayan said.

Hitting out at Congress, the LDF chief said the “results have shown that UDF and its opportunistic politics have no space in Kerala.”

“Congress was siding with the BJP to carry out the false campaign and malign LDF. It has not succeeded,” he said.

“People accepted development works carried out by the LDF government in the last four years. Those who were behind the disinformation campaign thought that people’s mandate can be turned against LDF,” he added, before congratulating and thanking voters for the support they extended to his party.
