A day after clashes broke out in Bengaluru over alleged
social media post on Tuesday night, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, that so far 146 people have been arrested in the case.  “An inquiry
will be held by a district magistrate over the same,” Bommai told ANI.

Bommai said that six companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are being dispatched to the violence-hit areas of the city. Three companies from Hyderabad and three from Chennai will be deployed in DG Halli and K G Halli police station limits where disturbances occurred, he said.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister BS
Yediyurappa urged the authorities to take ‘strict action against the
perpetrators’ involved in the vandalism of a police station and a Congress
legislator’s residence on Tuesday night.

The CM termed the attack on the journalists, the police
and the public during the violence, as “unacceptable,” saying “the government
will not tolerate such provocations”. Yediyurappa said, “Strict action
against perpetrators is certain. I appeal to people to show restraint.”

At least two people died in police firing on Tuesday
after a mob rampaged through Bengaluru’s Pulakeshi Nagarand area, vandalising a
police station and a Congress legislator’s residence.

The clashes broke out after an alleged relative of
the MLA shared a social media post reportedly on a communal issue.

The main accused, Naveen, in the Bengaluru violence
has also been arrested for sharing derogatory posts on social media, reported
news agency ANI quoting Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant.
