US politician Bernie Sanders set the internet on fire after he attended the recently-held Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony at the Capitol Hill on January 21. Sanders wore an informal overcoat and carried a yellow envelope with him, which made way for various speculations and memes. However, Sanders’ brown and white mitten, compounded with his sitting posture during the ceremony, quickly spread like wildfire. It would be almost fair to say that he hogged all of Biden’s limelight.

While the Internet is flooded with hilarious Sanders meme, Kerala Tourism, too, tried their hand at the meme. And they did not disappoint.

“Wear your warm woollen mittens and enjoy the cool crisp Munnar weather!” Kerala Tourism captioned their picture of Sanders sitting on a rock against a background of a lush green tea plantation.

Replying to their witty post, Indian columnist Shoba De tweeted that the post was ‘smart, swift and superb.’

Sanders, who appeared on the Late Night with Seth Meyers, said that he wasn’t aware of the memes that are doing rounds on the internet. He explained that he was ‘just sitting there, trying to keep warm. Talking about the viral ‘Bernie in chair’ pose, he said: “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.”

Sander also spoke about the woman who made the mittens. “What was really nice is the woman who made the mittens lives in Essex Junction, Vermont, she is a schoolteacher and a very, very nice person. She has been somewhat overwhelmed by the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens,” he said.

The teacher who crafted the mittens from recycled woolly jumpers got 6,000 requests after the ceremony from people begging her to make them a pair.
