The death toll has risen to 41 at Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, where a three-storeyed building collapsed on Monday, ANI reported. 43-year old Jilani building in the Patel Compound area in Bhiwandi, caved in at 3.40 am on Monday.

The dead included at least 11 children, aged between 2 to 15, PTI reported. 

Emergency workers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have so far pulled out 20 survivors from the rubble of the building. 
It had 40 flats and 150 people lived in it. The structure caved in when residents were still asleep, 

The reason for the collapse is still not known.

Meanwhile, two civic officials have been suspended in connection with the incident. Offences under sections 337, 338, 304 (2) of the IPC have been registered against the building’s owner Sayyed Ahmed Jilani.
