Gujarat’s Chief Minister-designate Bhupendra Patel will take oath on Monday afternoon. His was selected a day after former CM Vijay Rupani resigned on Saturday, 15 months ahead of the state Assembly polls.
Patel met Rupani at the latter’s official residence in Gandhinagar on Monday morning and held discussions on various issues, a release issued by the state government said. Rupani resigned on Saturday, and Patel, who represents Ghatlodia Assembly seat in Ahmedabad, was unanimously elected as the BJP legislative party leader on Sunday.

Bhupendra Patel is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The veteran leader is known to be the protege of Anandiben Patel, the former chief minister of Gujarat, now serving as the governor of BJP led Uttar Pradesh. In 2017, Bhupendrabhai Patel beat Shashikant Patel of the Indian National Congress to become the MLA for the Ghatlodiya constituency in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections. Patel holds a diploma degree in civil engineering.

Patel receives Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives at the airport in Ahmedabad.
Before meeting Rupani, Bhupendra Patel met Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel at the latter’s residence in Ahmedabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated Bhupendra Patel after his swearing-in ceremony.
