Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is back in the spotlight as the party has entrusted him with an active role in the Bihar assembly polls. BJP sources said Fadnavis has been roped in by the party leadership for the poll preparedness, PTI reported. He had recently participated in a Bihar core committee meeting of the party.

“He has already begun his work and will play an active role. A formal announcement regarding his responsibility may be made later by party president J P Nadda,” a BJP source said.

Fadnavis will be expected to sort the differences between the two BJP allies Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) led by Chirag Paswan and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United).

According to sources, Chirag Paswan has already discussed the issues with BJP party president JP Nadda and has expressed his discontent about the manner in which the issues raised by LJP have been dealt with.

The party has already announced Nitish Kumar as the CM candidate of NDA. The campaigns are currently led by BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav, who also had led the Maharashtra assembly elections last year. Fadnavis will join the camp once the official schedule is announced by the Election Commission.

The decision also comes in the backdrop of the Sushant Singh Rajput case in which Maharashtra and Bihar governments had locked horns over the handling of case by the Mumbai police. The matter has taken on an emotive dimension in Bihar, the home state of the actor.
