President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad today but controversies soon emerged on social media when leaders of the opposition party called it ‘disgraceful’ to replace Sardar Patel’s name with Narendra Modi’s.
The leaders mostly from Congress, took to Twitter to express their opinion that changing the name of Motera stadium from Sardar Patel stadium to Narendra Modi stadium was an insult to the First Deputy Prime Minister of India.

Responding to these allegations, Union Ministers, Prakash Javedkar and Ravi Shankar Prasad lashed back at Congress and said that those who never respected Sardar Patel were objecting to this new change.
Javedkar, the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, also clarified that the stadium was named after Narendra Modi. The entire complex will still be recognised by the name of Sardar Patel.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Minister for Information and Technology, took a more direct jab at Congress and questioned whether Sonia Gandi and Rahul Gandhi had ever visited the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel that was erected in Gujarat.

BJP National President, JP Nadda, said that the stadium was named after Narendra Modi to honour the Prime Minister’s vision and where he wanted to take India. The IT cell head of BJP, Amit Malviya also asked Congress to get used to it since several people now speak about Narendra Modi and India under the same breath.
