With videos of a blindfolded man
being hit with a cane by five individuals in Tamil Nadu going viral, police
confirmed on Thursday that the incident occurred in Thanjavur district’s Ammanpetai
on Wednesday, as per a report by the Indian Express.

The victim, who has been identified
as 24-year-old Rahul, a labour by occupation and hailing from Poondimelatheru,
was reportedly tied down and beaten up by four people as one other person shot
the clip, posting it on social media.

“We don’t know the exact reason for
the incident. We are still investigating the issue,” Thanjavur Rural DSP G Anand
was quoted as saying regarding the issue, who further added that a dispute was
going on between Rahul and the group since Sunday.

Reportedly, the afflicted is currently
undergoing treatment at the Thanjavur hospital.

The video that went viral on Thursday
displays Rahul being held by two individuals while two others beat him with a
cane, despite the former pleading them to leave him.

Eventually the 24-year-old is seen to
be fainting, which does not seem to stop the attackers, as one amongst them is
heard saying the youth would not die, encouraging the fellow miscreants to continue
to hitting him.

Reportedly, even though no FIRs have
been registered so far, two involved persons have been called to the police
station.
