2020 has been all about deaths, misery, and destruction. It has been a brutal year for cinema lovers as many Bollywood and television celebrities lost their lives. In just a few days, the entertainment industry has lost many of its gems. From legendary actors like Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, and Sushant Singh Rajput to music director Wajid Khan, astrologer Bejan Daruwalla, and lyricist Yogesh Gaur, many known personalities have left us with just the memories of their work. 

Sushant Singh Rajput

The tragic news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death sent shock-waves through the nation and triggered an important discussion on mental health. The 34-year-old actor reportedly ended his life by hanging himself at his Bandra house, where he was living alone during the lockdown. The reports allege that Sushant was suffering from depression for the last six months. 

Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan, a beloved actor who managed to break through Hollywood as well and resonated well with fans, died at 53 on April 29, 2020. Khan had cancer and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for a colon infection. 

He was last seen in Angrezi Medium directed by Homi Adajania. However, not many people know that post Angrezi Medium; the actor had begun shooting for his next film titled Sapna Didi alongside Deepika Padukone. Pinkvilla quoted a source saying, “Irrfan had signed Sapna Didi, opposite Deepika Padukone. It was a Vishal Bharadwaj film based on female gangster Sapna Didi and loosely adapted from a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Irrfan had started shooting for the movie and filmed three days for the same. He did record a few action scenes in those three days, but he fell terribly ill right after and the film shoot had to be canned.”

Rishi Kapoor

On April 30, 2020, India was shocked to learn of the death of Rishi Kapoor, one of Bollywood’s most handsome and charming actors who starred in dozens of films in the 1970s and 80s. Kapoor found out he had leukemia in 2018. According to reports, fans will get to watch him one last time in Sharmaji Namkeen.

Wajid Khan

Singer-composer Wajid Khan, part of music director duo Sajid-Wajid, died of the corona virus at a hospital in Mumbai early on May 31, 2020. The 42-year-old singer had underlying kidney issues. However, Wajid’s brother Sajid told PTI that he died of a cardiac arrest. Just a day after his death, his mother Razina Khan has tested positive for the corona virus and she has been admitted to Mumbai’s Surana Hospital in Chembur, where the late music composer was also undergoing treatment.

Mohit Baghel

Actor Mohit Baghel, best known for playing Amar Chaudhary in superstar Salman Khan’s Ready, died of cancer on May 23, 2020. He was 26.

Yogesh Gaur

Who Yogesh? The typical millennial generation might ask. It is enough to say that he’s the man who penned the famous songs Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli Haye, Kahin Dur Jab Din Dhal Jaaye in Anand. He breathed his last on May 29, 2020.

Sai Gundewar

Actor Sai Gundewar, known for his appearances in shows like Survivor and Splitsvilla, as well as acting in films PK and Rock On!, passed away at the age of 42.

The actor had been battling brain cancer before succumbing to the disease on May 10, 2020, in Los Angeles.

Bejan Daruwalla

Famous astrologer Bejan Daruwalla died at a private hospital in Ahmedabad on May 29, 2020. He was 89. Among his most famous predictions is the one about Narendra Modi beating his competitors’ hands down to “win the game”. He made the prophecy just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

“Narendra Modi’s Moon and Mars are together. Moon is for popularity and Mars is for energy. The combination of two makes him a winning material. For all these reasons, Narendra Modi will win the game,” was his prediction ahead of the polls.

That’s not all, television actors like Preksha Mehta, Mebiena Michael, Manmeet Grewal, Sachin Kumar, and Shafique Ansari also passed away recently.
