Chillupar assembly constituency has Vinay Shankar Tiwari of the Samajwadi Party (SP) taking on Rajesh Tripathi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sonia Shukla of the Indian National Congress (INC), Rajendra Sehi of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Suraj Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Vinay Shankar Tiwari of the BSP had won the Chillupar seat in 2017. Tiwari had beaten his closest rival Rajesh Tripathi by over 3,359 votes. Tripathi had contested that election on a BJP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Rajesh Tripathi of the BSP. 

Chillupar falls under the Gorakhpur district and the Bansgaon Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats.

Kamlesh Paswan of the BJP represented Bansgaon as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Paswan defeated Sadal Prasad from the BSP with a margin of 1,53,468 votes. 

The Chillupar assembly constituency will vote in the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on March 3, 2022, along with 56 other constituencies in 10 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 7.

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
