Khashim Vashum of the Naga People’s Front defeated the National People’s Party candidate to win the Chingai assembly constituency by 2336 votes.
Chingai assembly constituency has M.K. Preshow Shimray of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Sword Vashum of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Khashim Vashum of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) this year in the Manipur assembly elections.

Khashim Vashum of the NPF had won the Chingai seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Khashim Vashum had beaten his closest rival Sword Vashum by over 7,650 votes. Sword Vashum had contested that election on a BJP ticket.
In 2012, the seat was won by M.k. Preshow of the INC.
Chingai falls under the Ukhrul district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of 73,782 votes.

The Chingai assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies.
Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
