The runtime for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s highly
anticipated upcoming film Eternals has been confirmed by the movie’s director
Chloe Zhao. The Oscar winning filmmaker has received praise from
all corners for her work on independent films. Her latest project is based on
the Marvel Comics which share the same title.

It will revolve around a number of superheroes who do not belong
to the human race coming out of hiding after thousands of years to save the Earth
from the evil ‘Deviants’.

The all-new superhero team’s heroics are set after the
events of Avengers: Endgame since the film ended with the emergence of something
which puts humanity in danger.

The star-studded cast includes Angelina Jolie, Kit Harrington, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani,
Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Harish Patel, Lauren Ridloff and Brian Tyree Henry.

The Eternals were created by the mysterious Celestials and
have inhabited the Earth for over 7,000 years. Introduction of a long list of
new characters is bound to take time, which is why the film has a runtime of around
two and a half hours, according to Zhao who revealed this in an interview with Fandango.

She went on to say that the runtime was intentional and
could have been even longer considering the fact that there are ten characters
who have been here for 7,000 years.

It will be one of the longest Marvel movies yet and another
possible explanation behind the same could be the expectation of all the big
names performing roles in the film to have considerable screentime for their
character.

The longest Marvel film is Avengers: Endgame which came
out in 2019 and has a runtime of 181 minutes (3 hours and 1 minute). Once Eternals
releases it will occupy the second spot on the list, pushing Avengers: Infinity
Way which lasts for 149 minutes (2 hours and 29 minutes) to the third spot.

The fans will have no problems with a lengthy movie as long
as it keeps them on their toes at all times. If the director’s previous work is anything to go by then the viewers will enjoy every minute of the film.
