Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde’s
mother on Wednesday was duped of Rs 2.5 crore allegedly by the family property caretaker, PTI reported quoting a police official. 

Tapas Ghosh (49), the alleged perpetrator was arrested
on Tuesday night. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nagpur police, which
includes officers from the Economic Offences Wing (EoW)  is investigating into the case under the
supervision of DCP Vinita Sahu, the official added.

Ghosh, a resident of Friends Colony, Delhi was
appointed by the Bobde family to take care of the ‘Seadon Lawn’, a property
owned by Bobde’s nonagenarian mother, Mukta Bobde. The property is located
adjoining their residence near Akashwani Square which they usually rents out to
organize several functions or events, the official said, reported PTI.

Ghosh was taking care of the property for past 10
years and was looking for money, the official added.

Seeing Mukta Bobde’s declining health, he used this
as an opportunity and allegedly forged payment receipts of the lawn and cheated
her of Rs 2.5 crore, the official said, adding the money could be
more.

The FIR was filed on late Tuesday night at Sitabuldi
Police Station alleging Ghosh and his wife of not depositing all the money
received from renting out the laws for several events, the officials said,
reported PTI.
