After losing West Bengal in the state assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated his opponent and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for yet another win of her party, Trinamool Congress, in the state. He said that the central government will continue to extend support to her government to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Congratulations to Mamata Didi for Trinamool Congress’ win in West Bengal. The Centre will continue to extend all possible support to the West Bengal Government to fulfil people’s aspirations and also to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic,” Narendra Modi tweeted.

Notably, the chief minister has scripted a third straight win for TMC in the assembly elections

Hours after party’s good show in West Bengal elections, Banerjee said tackling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic was the priority of the moment. She added that the oath-taking will be a simple affair.

“I would like to thank everyone. I request all to not take out victory processions. I urge everyone to go back to their homes now. I will address the media after 6 pm,” she said.

Banerjee accused the BJP of playing “dirty politics” and said it has lost the elections. As per the latest count, the saffron party has won a single seat and is leading in 77, which is much short of the majority mark of 148.

The win came for the party at a critical time when Trinamool’s cadre was on the edge with the top leaders of the party switching to the BJP. With this win, she has proved the point that in her home, she can be challenged but can’t be defeated.
