The Rajasthan government on Saturday introduced three bills to negate the effect of the farm laws put in place by the Centre, reported PTI.

The move comes after the Punjab government, earlier in October, adopted a resolution against farm laws and passed four bills to counter the legislations passed by the Narendra Modi-led government.

Rajasthan’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal put in place the Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020 and the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation and Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2020.

The 77-year-old Congress leader tabled the Code of Procedure (Rajasthan Amendment ) Bill 2020 on the first day of the Assembly Elections.

The House was adjourned following obituary references to former president Pranab Mukherjee and other leaders who passed away recently.

The Congress top brass had earlier indicated that states in which it held power would pass laws to counter the farm legislations passed by the Centre.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who was embroiled in a political conflict early in the year, had labelled the laws passed by the Centre as “anti-farm laws.”

Gehlot, on October 20, had tweeted, “INC under the leadership of Smt Sonia Gandhi ji& Rahul Gandhi ji stands absolutely with our annadatas and will continue to oppose the anti-farmer laws passed by NDA Govt. Today Congress Govt in #Punjab has passed Bills against these laws & #Rajasthan will follow soon.”

Farmers in several parts of the desert state protested against the Centre’s laws. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had spearheaded the protests against the farm laws in Punjab.

The Union government has repeatedly emphasised that the laws will raise income of farmers, free them from the clutches of middlemen and bring in new technology in farming.
