Thousands of
protesting farmers on Thursday staged a four-hour ‘Rail Roko’
demonstration
 from 12 noon to 4 pm on Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait‘s call, as a part of their agitation against the three newly enacted farm
laws. The laws have been the bone of contention between the Central government and
Indian farmers since their implementation.

The Indian Railway authorities scaled up the security at all the
railway stations across the country — especially in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab,
Haryana and West Bengal in response to farmers’ rail roko movement.

Here are the highlights from the nationwide ‘Rail Roko’ movement today

1- There was no
untoward incident reported from any of the protest site and the agitation passed
off without any significant impact on the railway services across the country, spokesperson
for the Indian Railways told PTI.

2- In Haryana, protesting farmers, including women, squatted on railway tracks at many places, including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Panchkula, Rohtak, Sonipat, Hisar and Fatehabad districts, the officials said.

3- Flower petals were showered on police officials by the members of Bharatiya Kisan Union. Protesters also offered sweets to the officers on duty in Modinagar.

4- The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed the entry and exit gates for Tikri Border, Pandit Shree Ram Sharma, Bahadurgarh City and Brig. Hoshiar Singh metro stations in view of the four-hour Rail Roko movement.

5- BKU leader Rakesh Tikait asked farmers’ to be ready if it comes to sacrificing their standing crop. He also told Centre that the agitation won’t end till the farm laws are repealed no matter how long it takes.
