Chhattisgarh’s capital city Raipur will be a containment zone from 6 pm on April 9 till 6 am on April 19, District Magistrate (DM) S Bharathi Dasan said, reported ANI. The decision has been taken over the massive surge in COVID-19 cases.

During this period, the border of the district will remain sealed, the DM said. The order came a day after the state recorded 9,921 cases that was the highest single-day spike since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, a nine-day lockdown came into effect in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Tuesday. The announcement was made four days before the restrictions came into effect. Everything, except essential services and medical stores, will remain closed during this period. The district’s border was also sealed. 

Meanwhile, the state’s Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu on Wednesday advised people to not delay the treatment for COVID-19, reported ANI. He said that separate centres will be made for patients arriving for check-ups, requiring ventilator and oxygen support.

Chhattisgarh has recorded 386,269 cases of novel coronavirus, till Tuesday. This includes 4,416 deaths due to the disease.
