In a positive news on the COVID-19 front, 18 states are showing continuous decrease in daily case tally. Among the states and Union Territories are the worst-hit Delhi, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, Union Health Ministry announced on Tuesday.

“Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Gujarat showing continuous decrease in daily new COVID19 cases,” the ministry said.

Others on the list are Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

India is reeling under a crippling second wave of COVID-19, which has infected 22,992,517 people so far and claimed 249,992 lives, hitting the healthcare system hard.

Elaborating on the current case trends in the country, Union Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that there are more than 1 lakh active cases in 13 states, 50,000 to 1 lakh active cases in 6 states and less than 50,000 active cases in 17 states.

Amid reports of difficulties in managing a second dose for those who have already received their first dose, Bhushan said, “In this regard, States can reserve at least 70% of the vaccines supplied to them from the Government of India channel (free of cost) for second dose vaccination and the remaining 30% for the first dose.”
