With Bukayo Saka’s penalty miss, another chapter of UEFA’s European Championship came to an end. Italy defeated England 3-2 on penalties to win their second continental trophy. The playing time ended in a 1-1 draw after Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci’s 67th-minute goal helped his side recover, after they had conceded the quickest goal ever in a European Championship final

Euro 2020 saw 142 goals scored in 51 matches, at an average of 2.78 goals per match. The tournament witnessed 14 braces, nine penalties scored against eight missed and 11 own goals.

Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo won his first European Championship Golden Boot. The No 7 scored in all group stage games. Portuguese were knocked out in the quarter-final, the only game Ronaldo did not score. Following the Juventus forward was Czech player Patrik Schick with five goals. The former won the golden boot on other criteria UEFA uses as a tiebreaker – assists, fewest minutes played, goals scored in qualifying.

As winners, Italy won €10m and runners-up England took home €7m.
