Matrimonial advertisements never fail to disappoint the internet. Time and again social media has gone mad over different types of matrimonial advertisements, most of them classified according to religion, caste, often carrying physical appearance details, like skin colour, height, and sometimes specifically mentioning family wealth and properties.

However, this time an Indian woman in a matrimonial ad is looking for a match, a feminist man on [email protected] id.

An ad, published in India’s largest selling newspaper, for “an opinionated feminist with short hair and piercings” is seeking “a non-farting, non-burping, handsome, rich feminist” man and it has gone viral.

The same was shared by comedian Aditi Mittal on Twitter, where she said if someone had put out the ad on her behalf.

Bollywood actor Richa Chaddha also shared the ad, quoting Aditi Mittal’s tweet, and said, “someone out there is waiting for you.”

While the internet was in splits over the ad, many speculated whether the ad was “authentic.” According to a BBC report, the ad was a prank between a brother, sister and her best friend. The ad was posted by the brother and her best friend to prank the sister, who turned 30.

The sister, for whom the ad was, said she does have short hair, piercings, works in the social sector, and is opinionated adding that the burper-farter is a family joke, BBC reported.

The ad that cost nearly Rs 13,000 was just meant to be a private joke but it was soon all over social media and gained more attention after celebrities shared it, resulting in hundreds of comments on it and dozens of emails on [email protected] id, BBC said.

Many called the girl “a gold digger” and a “hypocrite” and advised her to earn her own money, while many called her a “cougar” for being over 30 and seeking a man who is 25-28. On the other hand, some wrote to her saying the ad was toxic and that she “sounded fat,” while one said, “all feminists are idiots,” the report said.
