The farmers protest entered its 26th day on Monday. On Sunday, the farmers announced that they would be observing a hunger strike on Monday. “Farmers will begin a day-long relay hunger strike on Monday at all sites of protest against the new agri laws. It will be started by a team of 11 members at protest sites here,” PTI quoted Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav as saying on Sunday at the Singhu border.
He further requested people demonstrating across the country to observe hunger strikes in support of the farmers.
The government on Sunday invited the farmers for the next round of talks and asked them to choose a convenient date.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas have been protesting for more than three weeks against Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, enacted in September during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
