Delhi Congress passes resolution to make Rahul Gandhi President of the party with immediate effect, ANI reports.

At a virtual meeting of
the Congress Working Committee (CWC) organised on January 22, the party decided
that the organisational elections will be held by June 2021. The decision comes
in view of internal disputes as the party is being led by the interim president
Sonia Gandhi for more than a year.

Making the announcement, party leader KC Venugopal said, “Congress
Working Committee has decided that there will be an elected Congress president
by June 2021,” reports news agency ANI.

Many top members of the party are looking forward to see a full-time and
active party president. The CWC in an earlier meet, had agreed upon holding the
elections , after a group of 23 leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand
Sharma, Bhupinder Hooda, Prithviraj Chavan, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari and
Mukul Wasnik, wrote a letter to interim president pointing out the alleged
arbitrariness in running the party and a need to hold party polls.
