A massive fire ripped through a four-storey building in Mundka, Delhi, on Friday, killing at least 27 people and injuring 12 others. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia visited the site of the blaze on Saturday to take stock of the situation.

A look at the latest on the fire – 

1. Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured in the fire.

“A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the incident. The families of the deceased will be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, while the injured will be given Rs 50,000,” the chief minister said.

He added that the bodies were charred to such an extent that it has become difficult to identify them.

“The Delhi government has deployed help to identify the missing and the deceased,” Kejriwal added.

2. DCP Sameer Sharma said the owner of the building, who has been identified as Manish Lakra, is currently absconding and will be nabbed soon.

“The building did not have a fire NOC. The owner of the building has been identified as Manish Lakra who lived on the top floor. Lakra is currently absconding, teams are on the job and he will be nabbed soon,” DCP Sameer Sharma said. 

3. Eleven of the 12 injured have been identified and at least 50 people have been rescued from the building. At least 29 are still reported to be missing.

4. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday said he was “deeply pained” by the loss of lives in the fire.

“Deeply pained by the tragic fire incident in Mundka, Delhi. Despite best rescue efforts many precious lives were lost. My deepest Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of those injured,” Baijal tweeted.

“Even as we go into the details of causes behind the tragedy, immediate steps should be taken by all concerned to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he said.

5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the kin of the deceased.
