Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday said that first omicron case has been detected in Delhi. The patient admitted to LNJP Hospital had returned from Tanzania.

In its statement, the Delhi government said that a total of 12 people’s samples had been sent for genome sequencing, out of which one has been tested positive for omicron variant.

On Saturday, a 33-year-old man from the Kalyan-Dombivli municipal area near Mumbai was confirmed to be infected with the omicron variant after returning from South Africa via Dubai. The man, who was described as a marine engineer, had not been vaccinated.

On Thursday, Karnataka reported the country’s first two cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19, in a 66-year-old South African flyer and a 46-year-old Bengaluru doctor with no travel history. Both men had received all of their vaccinations.

A 72-year-old NRI man from Gujarat was also infected with the new strain on Saturday. So far, five people have tested positive for the omicron virus.
