The mind has a tendency to look back fondly on the past. It is primordial, and marketers all over the world understand how powerful nostalgia can be. It is a powerful strategy that gives you the best odds.

Recently, a sweet shop in Delhi tapped into this goldmine and resurrected the long-forgotten malted drink mix Bournvita. The hot malted milk beverage made with Bournvita was popular for generations, most notably among millennials and early Gen Zs.

Shagun Sweets in New Delhi’s Maujpur neighbourhood went viral after they introduced a fusion sweet made with dry fruits, ghee, and Bournvita. A chocolate-flavoured Barfi piqued the interest of food blogger Arjun Chauhan, who featured it on his Instagram food page.

The 15-second Instagram video demonstrates what goes into making this exotically strange fusion sweet. In a large pan, a sugar syrup base is first made and mixed with what appears to be Mawa (or dry milk).

A large amount of Bournvita is added to the paste and thoroughly mixed until the consistency and appearance change dramatically. The video shows the confectioner generously sprinkling dry fruits and pouring ghee before the final product appears.

Another person commented, “Dekhne see hi height badh gayi.”

“Aaj kal log kuch bhi banate hai aur kuch bhi khate hai,” a third user who didn’t like the fusion sweet, said.
