The much-awaited Marvel Universe film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ premiered on May 3rd in the United States. It is soon going to be released in cinemas in India too, but till now the audience has not been able to find out who the real villain of this film is.
However, looking at the trailers and interviews, we feel that only one of the three major characters can be a villain. Let us tell you about those three main roles.
1. The villain will be a form of Doctor Strange
In the Doctor Strange sequel, Stephen and Wanda will face many different villains and heroes from other universes, and there’s no doubt that viewers will see Doctor Strange fighting and teaming up with some of his other forms in the film. The film’s very first trailer has seen a few different Doctor Stranges including Strange Supreme, Defender Strange and Zombie Strange and as fans have seen in Episode 4 of ‘What If…?’ that not all Doctor Strange are heroes.
So, can Doctor Strange be so corrupt with his power that he wants to start a war? During an interview with Fandango, director Sam Raimi stated that, “Our characters in the multiverse are repetitions so I really shouldn’t answer the question if I say weird villains, but I can say that differently. Anyone can be a villain at times.”

“It would make sense if there were many bad guys in the Doctor Strange sequel. While one character is probably the true culprit in the film and may be a version of Doctor Strange, we can probably dismiss the main character as a villain.”
2. Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch is undoubtedly one of the strongest Avengers and her power only got stronger in WandaVision and while many fans believe that Wanda of the MCU may turn into a villain in Doctor Strange 2, we believe that a version of her could be the real culprit.
As is the case with Doctor Strange, there will be multiple Scarlet Witch variants in the Marvel movie. Fans can see the zombie Wanda in the trailer, but there are undoubtedly many more in the movie and the Scarlet Witch’s power is likely to turn most people into villains.
There may be a Wanda version somewhere in the multiverse that is more experienced and controlled than the Scarlet Witch of the MCU and perhaps that version of Scarlet Witch is causing trouble throughout the multiverse, with Stefan and Wanda likely teaming up.
As we mentioned earlier, there are likely to be both good and bad versions of Stefan and Wanda, but an evil Scarlet Witch variant would prove to be quite a challenge for the Doctor Strange 2 duo if she turns out to be the villain.
3. Nightmare can become the villain of ‘Doctor Strange 2’
There’s also a good chance that the Doctor Strange 2 villain is one that audiences have never seen before in the MCU, and the trailer may point to a classic Doctor Strange foe from comic books as the villain—the Nightmare.
The Nightmare is in charge of the Dream Dimension and is often associated with the Fear Lords in the comics. The villain draws his power from the sleeping mind and as his name suggests he gives pain to humans from nightmares.
Stephen and Wanda both make reference to nightmares that disturb their sleep in the Doctor Strange 2 trailers. In the official trailer, Stephen explains, “Every night I have the same dream. And then the Nightmare begins. In another promo, Doctor Strange says, “I was dreaming. Every night, I have the same dream. Then Wanda says, “Every morning, the same nightmare.”
Is this clue pointing to the real villain of the film? It can be no coincidence that Doctor Strange is talking about nightmares, and the Nightmare may be one of his most infamous villains.
