NITI Ayog member VK Paul said on Tuesday that the fact “doctors, nurses and healthcare workers are refusing to get
vaccinated” is disappointing, urging people to get the shots, PTI
reported.

He further highlighted that adverse effects and serious repercussions
seem to be unfounded and insignificant, further saying that “we are in a
situation of comfort”.

“We are not fulfilling our societal responsibility if a vaccine
assigned to you is not being taken. The whole world is clamouring for a
vaccine. It is sad that doctors, nurses and healthcare workers are refusing to
get vaccinated. I request you to please accept the vaccine,” PTI quoted
Paul as saying.

Only eight people got the jab at the All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Tuesday.

“On day two of the drive in Delhi, 3,598 people have been
administered corona vaccine. AEFI was reported in 26 persons,” a senior
health official at the Delhi health department said on Tuesday.

One severe and 50 minor instances of Adverse Events Following Immunisation
(AEFI) were reported on Saturday, after the first vaccination drive.

“As per the data available so far, only 0.18% is the
Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) and 0.002 is the percentage of the
people who were hospitalised following immunisation. These are fairly low, in
fact lowest so far as we know in the world in the first three days”, Union
Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan was quoted as saying.
