US President Donald Trump was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in reaching the landmark deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Fox News reported. The man who nominated Trump is Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament and chairman to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” Gjedde told Fox News.

Other than the Israel-UAE deal, the nomination letter to the Nobel committee cited Trump’s role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties, such as between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and between North and South Korea.

Filing a nomination letter doesn’t necessarily mean that Trump is being considered for the prestigious honour.

This year’s prize will be announced in October, for which 329 candidates — 217 individuals and 112 organizations, are being considered, the New York Times reported.

This isn’t the first time that Trump has been nominated for the honour. In 2018 he was nominated following his efforts to defuse tensions with North Korea.

Four American presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama being the most recent, who won the award in 2009. The other three are Theodore Roosevelt (1906), Woodrow Wilson (1919) and Jimmy Carter (2002).
