Umran Malik took three
wickets to power SunRisers Hyderabad to three runs win over Mumbai
Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. With these three wickets in the middle overs,
Umran took his personal tally to 21 wickets in 13 matches. His tally is the
second-highest for a fast bowler in IPL 2022. Malik is trailing behind Kagiso
Rabada, who has taken 22 wickets in 12 matches. Overall, he is fourth on the chart.

Impressed by the speedster’s
ability to take wickets in pressure situations and break partnerships, former
India coach Ravi Shastri said the BCCI should not delay in bringing the Jammu boy under its
central contract.
“Central contract
straightaway for him (Umran Malik). Don’t let him float around, keep him in the
mix with the main players and let him learn by being around the Shamis and
Bumrahs and see the way they train, the way they manage their workload but
don’t let him go astray,” Shastri was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Umran has been the find of
IPL 2022. He has been hailed by former fast bowlers for his ability to bowl
with sheer pace and control. He has already clocked the fastest delivery of the
season with a 157kph delivery. The pacer can hit 150kph regularly, which is rare and considered a unique trait of a fast bowler.
Playing his first full
season, the young pacer has not only made his ball talking but also honed his skills to appear as a better bowler in every game.

With the likes of Jasprit
Bumrah and Mohammed Shami around him, Shastri is optimistic about Umran Malik doing well in international cricket.
“I think he’ll get better
and better. Look at the lines he is bowling now. You don’t want him to cut down
on pace. The last thing you’d want to tell him is while looking for control you
cut down on pace. What you want him to do is get his lines right. If he can
attack the stumps consistently varying his length, he will trouble anyone. And
he can really rattle a new guy coming in because he’s got the pace, he can keep
the batter on his toes but it’s that line if he can hit the right areas without
reducing his pace, it’ll make a huge difference,” Shastri explained.
