In a horrific case of animal cruelty in Tamil Nadu, an elephant died after it was allegedly set on fire by a people in Masinagudi in Nilgiris. 

Reports stated that a burning piece of tyre was thrown on the 40-year-old elephant to chase it away. The mammal ran away in distress after the tyre got stuck on its ear. 

The elephant was later found with severe burns injuries by the forest rangers and transported to a camp for treatment, where the mammal succumbed to burn injuries.

Following a search, two miscreants were nabbed and booked for setting the animal on fire. Another accused remained on the run as of Thursday, 

Meanwhile, a video of the horrifying incident showed the men throwing burning objects at the mammal to chase it away.
