With
WhatsApp’s new privacy policy forcing its users to share personal data with parent
company Facebook, Elon Musk is urging people to switch to Signal, which is a
smaller encrypted messaging app.

Earlier this
week, WhatsApp users received a notification asking them to agree with the new
terms and conditions that will take effect
from February 8.

WhatsApp said users would have to agree to
share information with Facebook and its subsidiaries, including users’ phone numbers,
contacts’ phone numbers and locations. Not agreeing to the terms would result
in the users losing access.

Tesla CEO,
Elon Musk, expressed his inhibitions about the new privacy policy and took to
Twitter on Thursday to ask his followers to “Use Signal.”

Signal is a cross-platform encrypted messaging app developed by
the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC.

On
its official website, Signal claims it is an independent nonprofit that is “not tied to any
major tech companies.”

“We can never be acquired by one either. Development is
supported by grants and donations from people like you,” the website stated,
adding that the platform provides end-to-end encryption to its users.

Another prominent personality who has endorsed the app is Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey.
