Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, known to stump all with his repertoire of unusual words, was seen in a new avatar on Monday when he tweeted a video of himself crooning a romantic song in the beautiful Valley of Kashmir. Tharoor was in Srinagar over the weekend in connection with a meeting of the  Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, which he heads.

“After the cultural programme by Doordarshan Srinagar for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, I was persuaded to sing for the Members. Unrehearsed and amateur but do enjoy!”, posted the 65-year-old leader with 8.1 million followers on Twitter.

The song Congress leader chose to sing was ‘Ek ajnabi haseena se yun mulaqat….”from 1974 film Ajnabee, starring Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman.  The song was sung by Kishore Kumar. Reading the lyrics from his phone, Tharoor can be seen singing with a smile, thoroughly enjoying himself.

In a free wheeling interview with Opoyi last in 2019, Tharoor — a multifaceted politician –had spoken about his food choices, favourite place etc.

On being asked which role will you select for yourself and for Prime Minister Modi if he were to reenact Mahbharata, Tharoor had said, “I would like to think I’d make a good Krishna, but must content myself with being VedaVyasa, the chronicler who is also a participant in some of the events. The PM would no doubt want to play Bhim – with his 56-inch chest – though the Opposition might have some less flattering options for him.”

Tharoor, known to know and use unheard of english words, when asked which word was a tongue twister for him, said it was ‘Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia’, which means the fear of long words.

A recent photo of Tharoor smashing a coconut on the occasion of Onam had triggered a flood of memes. The Thiruvananthapuram lawmaker, who is known to be a sport when it comes to social media, also joined the fun.

The Congress leader shared a few photos on Twitter of his Onam celebrations. One of the pictures, where he is seen sporting a yellow kurta and off-white mundu, caught the fancy of Twitter users. Then there was no stopping them. From ‘Fast and Furious’ to WWE, cricket and chaiwallah — people photoshopped the picture into a series of funny situations.
