JK Dutt, former National Security Guard (NSG) Director General
who played a key role in leading the anti-terrorism squad during the terrorist
attack of 26/11, died on Wednesday due to COVID-19 related complications at the
age of 72, PTI reported.

Reportedly, he was admitted to Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital
on April 14 after his oxygen saturation levels started dropping.

“He passed away today at 3.30 pm after suffering a massive
cardiac arrest,” PTI quoted one of his unnamed family members as saying.

Dutt, who was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the
1971 West Bengal cadre, served as the NSG DG from August, 2006 to February,
2009.

“Sh Jyoti Krishan Dutt IPS, former DG NSG (Aug 2006- Feb
2009) passed away today on 19th May at Gurugram. NSG condoles the sad and
untimely demise of former DG and remembers his distinguished service to the
Nation”, the NSG tweeted out on Thursday, offering its condolences.

Dutt is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
