Social media giant Facebook has come up with a new app called BARS and it has been specially crafted for budding rappers. It has a similar design like TikTok, a short-video sharing app that was banned in India. Facebook’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) and Research & Development team has developed the new app and is currently available in beta version. The app has in-built tools for rappers to create music with no special skills required to record.

Different from other short-video apps, Facebook’s BARS is mainly aimed for creating content in rapping style. The app has pre-recorded beats to put your words into raps and suggests rhymes, so that you don’t break your flow. It also has a Challenge mode in which one can do freestyle rapping with auto-suggested word cues.

As you finish recording with lyrics and flow, the BARS app provides you a variety of audio and visual filters to enhance the content you have produced. There are preloaded tools to change your vocal output such as Clean, AutoTune and AM Radio.

Once you are finish recording, you can also export your rap videos and save them to Camera Roll. You can also share your video on other social media platforms. BARS app Community Manager DJ Iyer, who is a songwriter under the name of D-Lucks, said that the coronavirus outbreak was one of the major reasons for developing the BARS app.

He added, “I know access to high-priced recording studios and production equipment can be limited for aspiring rappers. On top of that, the global pandemic shut down live performances where we often create and share our work. So, along with a group of aspiring rappers, we’ve been building BARS: a place for aspiring rappers to create and share their art.”

The app is available for download from the Apple’s US App Store and is only available for limited number of iOS users. You can sign up for a waiting list in the app.
