Sandhya
Chakraborty, mother of actor Rhea Chakraborty, said that the media frenzy
around the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has “destroyed” her family,
adding that at one point she contemplated ending her life.

Her
comments came in the wake of the Bombay High Court granting bail to Rhea
on Wednesday. The actor spent nearly a month in prison. Speaking to the Times of
India, Sandhya confessed to having suicidal thoughts, although she sought therapy
which helped her stay strong for her children.

“My family
has not just been pushed to a corner, it’s been destroyed. At one point, I
thought the only way to end it was by ending my life. I’ve sought therapy for
myself and now when these feelings appear, I keep reminding myself that I need
to be there for my children. They’re going through far worse,” Times of India quoted her as saying.

She also
said that Rhea will have to take therapy to overcome the trauma she has been
subjected to for the past few months.

“Whatever
she has gone through, how will she heal from it? But she is a fighter and she
must be strong. I’ll have to put her in therapy to help her get over this
trauma and reclaim her life,” she said.

Sandhya also
expressed concerns about Rhea’s brother Showik, who continues to remain in
jail, saying that the legal battle is not over yet.

“My son is
still behind bars and I’m paranoid about what tomorrow will bring. I can’t
sleep anymore when my children are suffering in jail,” she said.

The Narcotics
Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Rhea and her brother Showick in a drugs case
related to Rajput’s death on September 9. Rajput, 34, was found hanging at his
Bandra, Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020.

The Central
Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the NCB and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are
currently investigating the death of the actor.
