The Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear a plea filed by the central government, filed through the Delhi Police, seeking an injunction against the tractor rally proposed by the protesting farmers on Republic Day, January 26. In its plea, the Delhi Police said the tractor rally by farmers “seeks to disrupt the gathering and celebrations” on Republic Day.
Farmers are firm at holding a tractor rally on Republic Day and have vowed to continue their stir till the agricultural laws are repealed. Many farmers, majorly from Punjab and Haryana, are staying put at different border points of Delhi protesting against the Centre’s three new farm laws, demanding a complete withdrawal of them. During the ongoing protest, many farmers have also lost their lives. As the next round of talks between farmers and the Centre is scheduled for Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar urged them to discuss “alternatives” to scrapping the legislation at the next meeting.
