Fazilnagar assembly constituency has Swami Prasad Maurya of the Samajwadi Party (SP) taking on Surendra Kushwaha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sunil Manoj Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC), Mohammad Illyas Ansari of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Harish Chandra Yadav of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Ganga Singh Kushwaha of the BJP had won the Fazilnagar seat in 2017. He had beaten his closest rival Vishwanath by over 41,922 votes. Vishwanath had contested that election on a SP ticket.  

In 2012, the seat was won by Ganga of the BJP. 

Fazilnagar falls under the Kushinagar district and the Deoria Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats.

Ramapati Ram Tripathi of the BJP represented Deoria as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Tripathi defeated Binod Kumar Jaiswal from the BSP with a margin of 2,49,931 votes. 

The Fazilnagar assembly constituency will vote in the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on March 3, 2022, along with 56 other constituencies in 10 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 7. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
