A revamped FC Goa side will take on 2018 ISL champion Bengaluru FC in Goa’s Fatorda stadium on Sunday,
reported PTI.

Ahead of the 2020 season, FC Goa have
changed their coach and also have brought in newer additions in the ranks
of foreign players.

In both 2015 and 2018 seasons, Goa were outperformed
in the finals by Chennaiyin FC and Bengaluru FC respectively, and will be
looking to edge past the final battle and get their hands on the trophy this
time around.

Juan Ferrando, much along the lines of Goa’s
previous coach Sergio Lobera, wants the team to continue playing attacking form
of football.

“We would continue to play
attacking brand of football, playing the game on the front foot. That is the
philosophy of the club and that is what really attracted me to the job. It is
aligned with the kind of football I believe in,” PTI quoted Ferrando as
saying.

Goa, who have become the first club in
India to qualify for the group stages of the AFC Champions League, removed tried
and tested stars like Ferran Corominas and Hugo Boumous, who have proven to be
goal-machines for their club in previous seasons.

As a substitution to these removals, Goa
have Spanish striker Igor Angulo to their list of strikers, and in terms of supporting
him, they have multiple names to choose from including Aaren D’Silva, Devendra
Murgaonkar, Ishan Pandita and Makan Chothe in attacking roles.

In the midfield, the team will benefit
from Edu Bedia’s powerful presence. However, in the absence of an attacking
midfielder like Boumous, Albert Noguera will have to take the main
responsibility to supply the ball from Bedia to Angulo.

Defence has never been Goa’s strongest
factor, but Ivan Gonzales and James Donachie will keep the goal lines protected.

Bengaluru, on the other hand, will be hoping
for a winning start, for which Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri will be a key
aspect.

Much like their usual playing style,
Bengaluru is expected to be performing as a complete mechanical unit, and an
important part of this unit is going to be their goalkeeper, a national team
regular as well as former representative of the Norwegian side Stabaek FC,
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
