Rakesh Tikait, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader, who has emerged as quite the figure for the protesting farmers, announced that the ‘Chakka Jam’ on February 6 will not be observed in the national capital.

The blockade on January 6 will be observed in the entire country including, other parts of the National Capital Region. These parts will also include some parts of BJP-governed Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The farmer leader said that the decision to not implement the blockade in Delhi is because the Prime Minister has already implemented shutdowns in the capital. Monuments are mostly closed in Delhi after the Republic Day incident.

A three-hour-long ‘Chakka Jam’ will be observed on February 6 in the entire country, except Delhi. People who will be stuck in the jam will be given food and water.

Currently, plans are being made to continue the momentum of the protest. Tikait added that the farmers are prepared to continue the protest. The protest started in November 2020 after the government passed the agriculture bills caused agitation among farmers, driving them to protest through the coldest nights of the year.

Rakesh Tikait, answering the questions of the press about the schedule of their blockade and protest, explained the planned paradigm of events.
