The ICC T20 World Cup is the next biggest tournament of the shortest of the game on the calendar after IPL 2022. The T20 World Cup will be played in Australia in October-November. India, who made a group stage exit from the 2021 edition of the tournament in the UAE, will look to amend their performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

After last season’s failure, the selection committee has to be wise in building the team. In T20 cricket, in form youngsters may prove handier than an experienced veterans as India proved in 2007 winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa under young captain MS Dhoni.

If selectors if a bold decision, a number of senior players, specially those who are out of form, could be rested which would open the doors for uncapped players. So, here we take a look at five uncapped players who could play for India in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rahul Tewatia

The middle-order batter has been in terrific form in IPL 2022. Rahul Tewatia has been consistent and maintaining a strike rate of 183.53 in the last four overs this season, smashing eight sixes thus far. His ability to score runs in death overs could make him a good finisher for India. Tewatai was previously selected in the squad for India’s T20Is against England last year but is yet to make an appearance in international cricket

Tilak Verma

The southpaw graduated to senior-level cricket playing for India U-19 in the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup. He is the highest runscorer for Mumbai Indians this season and has been one of the few positives in the franchise’ highly disappointing campaign. Verma has impressed with his ability to absorb pressure after repeated failures above him in the order, scoring 346 runs at an average of 43.25. At 19, he’s a serious prospect.

Umran Malik

The 22-year-old fast bowler has been the toast of IPL 2022. Playing for SunRisers Hyderabad, Umran Malik has sent down 145kph regularly. He also bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament with 157kmph delivery earlier in the season, much to the delight of fans and pundits. There has already call for his inclusion in the Indian team so that he can harness his skills while not losing the pace.

Though Malik occasionally proves expensive, his speed makes him tough to face. He could be handy during the T20 World Cup at Australia’s bowling friendly conditions.

Arshdeep Singh

Punjab Kings retained Arshdeep Singh after he took 18 wickets in 12 matches last season. This season he picked up only seven wickets, but he has an economy rate of just 7.69 and has been effective in the death overs. The left-arm pacer has an economy rate of 7.14 in the last four overs this year and has been accurate in the toughest situations.

Mohsin Khan

A left-arm fast bowler with high arm action, Mohsin Khan trained with Mohammed Shami during the lockdown. After missing out on matches during his Mumbai Indians days, Khan was picked by Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 auction. The bowler bowled with an economy rate of 5.19 this year, the best among all bowlers to have bowled more than five overs. This season he bowled 126 balls, of which 69 are dot balls.
