Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar started her career as an
assistant casting director at Yash Raj Films. She was with YRF for six years.
She is known for breaking all stereotypes with her ‘not-so-conventional’ roles.
She made her acting debut as an overweight bride in ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and
was able to carve a niche for herself in the Bollywood with her very first
movie itself.

Bhumi plays the character of an educated
and progressive woman named Sandhya in the movie. The character was seen
standing up for her rights and even fought with her husband over his
displeasure of her being overweight. However, she also supported him for the
right cause. Bhumi’s character Sandhya was an independent, self-assured, and
practical woman. 

Bala

‘Bala’ is one of the best performances of Bhumi. Her character
Latika is a smart, dark-skinned girl who bravely combats the colour bias that
prevails in society.

Sonchiriya

‘Sonchiriya’ is set in the Chambal Valley. It is a story about a
group of robbers who once terrorised the whole of India. Directed by Abhishek
Chaubey, the dacoit drama set amid the backdrop of 1975 also stars Sushant
Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee, and Ashutosh Rana.

The film released alongside a romantic comedy ‘Luka Chuppi’ on
the same day, might not have had a great run at the box office the movie is a
must-watch.

Bhumi portrays the character of Shooter
Dadi or Chandro Tomar in this biopic that has been directed by Tushar
Hiranandani. Chandro along with Prakashi Tomar (Taapsee Pannu) goes against all
odds including gender discrimination and other issues related to patriarchy to
pursue something in which they are well-versed.  

Lust Stories

Bhumi’s story was critically acclaimed and is focused on
breaking stereotypes related to Indian women. The movie is about four couples
who are going through various difficulties related to their marriage and
personal lives. It was directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap,
and Dibakar Banerjee. In this part, Bhumi was seen playing the role of Sudha, a
maid who had physical desires that she explored it with the person for whom she
worked for.
